The "Batone" of Massa Vecchia is the red house wine, simple, straightforward and direct, which is the life of the Sangiovese of the upper Maremma. In our first note there are screams, wildflowers, background and red fruits. Gastronomic and half-timbered, characteristic for a fresh breakfast, good tannins and an excellent breakfast. Wine is presented as a method with artificial methods.
This wine is a direct red with an irresistible drink, a genuine expression of Sangiovese. The "base" wine that we would like to always have on the table every day, although this desire clashes with the limited edition of bottles available. Yes, because Massa Vecchia, a winery founded in 1985 and always dedicated to a respectful and non-interventionist approach, extends for only 6 hectares in the heart of the Maremma, and therefore the size and production philosophy have always remained purely artisanal. Sangiovese first of all, then Trebbiano, Malvasia and some international grape varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, which always give life to territorial, expressive, exciting liquids. Value for money par excellence.
The red "Batone" is obtained from 100% Sangiovese grapes, coming from the youngest vines available. The approach in the vineyard only involves the use of copper and a little sulfur and in the cellar the creed remains unchanged, therefore, after the manual sorting of the grapes and de-stemming, the alcoholic fermentation occurs spontaneously in concrete tanks. The refinement of the liquid takes place for a few months in large wooden barrels, without this undergoing clarification or filtration.
It has the typical Sangiovese garment, an intense ruby that fades towards the edge. Territorial, pulsating and energetic nose, where clear references to blood orange, earth, wild herbs and undergrowth immediately stand out. The way the scents reveal themselves, so varied and dynamic. The tasting tells of an equally snappy and energetic wine, played on simplicity and ease of drinking. Freshness, salt and tannin all row in the same direction and the bottle, if accompanied with dignity, ends in an instant. From the chest up!
